Mexican Tin Five Light Candelabra by William Spratling, c. 1935
Trained as an architect, William Spratling (1900–1967) moved to Taxco, Mexico in 1929 and opened his workshop, Taller de las Delicias, two years later. Drawing on pre-Columbian forms and the skill of local craftspeople, he helped to revive Taxco's dormant metalworking tradition.
This is the larger of two early pieces we have from the 1930s, which comes from a private collection and is incredibly rare—a collector's piece. Spratling and Taxco marks on underside.
Dimensions: 17" H x 9.5" W x 7" D
