Before we made a mess of a beautiful word in the 1880s, ‘freak’ was used to refer to an unusual or fancy thing.

Freaks’ is a nod to not only one of the original meanings of the word, but also to the soul of each of these objects and the ways in which we find ourselves in them: Every little scallop on the back of a bench, every matchstick on a piece of tramp art, every curve of a Windsor chair is expressive and beautifully strange. They’re freaks—just like us—and this shop belongs to them.
